Work visa gives the right to be employed or hired on the basis of a civil law contract.
Business visa does not give the right to be employed or hired on a civil law contact basis and be on the payroll of the employing organization in Russia .

Representation in the Russian legal entity
A foreign citizen staying in Russia on the work visa has the right to represent his Russian firm in the State bodies of the Russian Federation .
A foreign citizen staying in the Russian federation on the business visa does not have the right to represent his Russian organization in the State bodies of the Russian Federation .

Multiple entry work visa is issued at the request of the Employer by the Passport-Visa Service and can be renewed for a new term in Russia .
Multiple entry business visa is issued by the Consulate of the Russian Federation abroad and can not be extended in the territory of Russia .

Duration of stay
Work visa enables a foreign citizen to stay in the Russian Federation during the whole period of the visa duration without leaving the country.
Business visa enables a foreign citizen to stay in Russia for not more than 182 days without leaving the country.

Duration of registration
When it is issued the work visa is registered automatically for the whole period of the visa duration.
Business visa is registered for a period of not more than 182 days, after which the foreign citizen has to leave the Russian Federation . On re-entering the country the foreign citizen has to register again.

Family members
In the case of a work visa accompanying family members receive visas and are registered for the whole twelve month period. It is quite convenient for children attending schools.
Accompanying family members are registered for a six month period and have to leave the country every six months.

Registration of the vehicles
In the case of a work visa registration of the vehicles is allowed for the whole period of the visa duration.
Registration of the vehicles which belong to a foreign citizen is done by the Transportation Department (GIBDD) for a period of 182 days only.
